The NBA favorite for this year’s Rookie of the Year honors, Blake Griffin, was in a state of shock on Wednesday night after learning about the death of his close friend, Wilson Halloway.
As the media entered the locker room after the Los Angeles Clippers victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, all eyes immediately fell on Griffin who sat with his head in hands remembering his good friend. Wilson and Griffin, of course, were teammates at Oklahoma Christian School and remained very close throughout Griffin’s rise up the basketball hierarchy.
Halloway eventually went on to receive a football scholarship from Tulsa. However, the talented youngster was taken down too early with a particular form of cancer known as Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Halloway’s funeral is for 1 p.m. on Monday at the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond.
Despite the tragedy, Griffin is still expected to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday and then play in the All-Star Game on Sunday in Los Angeles.
