On Friday night, August 21, the minor league baseball team the Lowell Spinners, Class A Short Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will attempt to break a Guinness World Record through one "simultaneous fist bump".

The attempt will take place in the middle of the fourth inning.

This attempt will be emceed by fist-bumping Boston Bruins super-fan (and leukemia survivor) Liam Fitzgerald, who has famously been shown on video giving fist-bumps to the Boston Bruins players as they leave the ice following warm-ups.

It is all part of a cancer fundraising campaign known as "bump out cancer". In the fourth inning, fans watching from the stands will be asked to fist-bump their neighbor at a designated time.

The hope is not only to break the existing world record of 1,082 simultaneous fist bumps, but also to raise money and awareness for local cancer patients and support programs.
