According to local CBS affiliate KREM, two people have been fatally shot at a cancer treatment center in Washington state.

Police responded to a 911 call from the Rockwood Cancer Treatment Center near Deaconess Hospital in downtown Spokane on Tuesday, 8 July at around 9:30 in the morning.

There, police found a man and woman both dead of gunshot.

Police believe it is a case of domestic violence. Early reports suggest that it may have been a murder-suicide, with the deceased male shooting the woman before turning the gun on himself.

Witnessed said it was a cold and calculated murder, with the man ambushing the woman, who worked at the cancer center, and killing her instantly. She was apparently afraid of him and in the process of obtaining a restraining order against him.

No patients were at the center at the time and no one else was harmed.

"This incident is both a family and community tragedy," said Spokane Police Chief Straub. "We will thoroughly investigate this incident and continue to work closely with our law enforcement and community partners to address issues associated with domestic violence."
