Bone Cancer Treatment Breakthrough

A new drug can help in the treatment of bone cancer and helping other cancers from spreading to bone cancer:

"WMBF News has a medical breakthrough to report in the fight against cancer, this time -- bone cancer.

It can be a daunting diagnosis when the disease spreads to your bones. But now, a doctor in your own back yard is on the front lines, taking part in research into a new drug to help treat it.

Just this month, the FDA approved the drug XGEVA. The maker said it helps prevent breaks and other complications when cancer spreads to the bones.

The last three years, Dr. Neal Shore at Carolina Urologic Research Center, studied the effects of XGEVA in preventing complications such as fracture and spinal cord compression on patients suffering from prostate cancer -- where the tumor spread to the bone."
