90210 Actress Confirms She Has Breast Cancer

Actress Shannon Doherty, 44, has announced that she has breast cancer and has been undergoing treatment since March. She likely felt compelled to make the announcement after tabloid site TMZ published legal documents relating to Doherty suing a former business manager for not paying her insurance premiums and allowing it to lapse.

According to the lawsuit, in March 2015 she received a diagnosis of "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node."

Known best for her role on the 1990s TV hit Beverly Hills, 90210, Doherty is asserting (in her lawsuit) that if she had had health insurance last year and had been able to see a doctor, it would have been possible to catch the cancer early enough to avoid some of the treatment decisions she now may be facing, "including mastectomy and chemotherapy."

In the meantime, she told People Magazine that she is "continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life. I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me."
