Disco star's wife pursues 'spider therapy' for his liver cancer

Ordained druid priestess Dwina Murphy-Gibb, wife of BeeGees member and liver cancer patient Robin Gibb, has effectively put an unfamiliar alternative cancer treatment on the map.

Murphy-Gibb told a television program last week that she's looking into so-called 'spider medicine' to treat her husband's cancer.

Spider medicine is a Native American healing approach, 'animal medicine' that alleges to bring the "healing aspects that a particular animal brings to our consciousness" (according to information provided at MedPageToday's coverage).

Despite a dearth of any evidence backing spider medicine as a cancer cure, associations like the American Cancer Society say that these treatments, though scientifically invalid nonetheless provide "worthwhile physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits" to some patients.

Gibb is 61 years old. He has outlived his two famous brothers and is the sole surviving member of the BeeGees, one of the best-selling disco bands of the 1970s.
