Overlooked Signs of Gynecological Cancers

backpain

There are five main gynecological cancers – cervical, uterine, vaginal, ovarian, and vulvar. Most doctors only regularly screen for cervical, so it is important that women learn to recognize the symptoms of the other four cancers. These symptoms are common and may indicate benign conditions, but if you are experiencing them you may want to talk to your doctor about screening.

Cervical cancer is the most common type of gynecological cancer, and ovarian is the deadliest. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that many women are not concerned when they exhibit these symptoms, and expect gynecological cancers to display themselves in other ways. Women were more concerned about vaginal bleeding than frequent urination, which is a bigger risk factor for cancer.

These are symptoms of gynecological cancer that often get overlooked by women.

- Vaginal Itching
- Vaginal Burning
- Back or Abdominal Pain
- Exhaustion
- Increased Urination
- Bloating

These symptoms are often overlooked because they may also indicate a benign condition. Many people who experience these symptoms do not have cancer, so many women don’t think to take these issues to the doctor. One way to test if these issues are concerning is to know what is “normal” for you.

Learn your body. If you know how long and heavy your periods are, how tired you tend to be, or how often you urinate, you can recognize subtle changes in these patterns. If you experience a change, there is a chance that it could be cancer and you should check with your doctor.

The earlier that gynecological cancers are found and treated, the higher the chances are for survival.
