85 year old former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno's condition was cited as being 'serious' and 'grave', but contrary to reports from several media outlets Paterno has not succumbed to his lung cancer.

His son Jay Paterno tweeted late Saturday night that Paterno was "continuing to fight" although it seems evident to most that his condition has become grave and he is likely not expected to live much longer.

Currently Paterno is on a ventilator and it may come down to the family's decision whether or not to remove it.

In November of 2011, after 46 seasons as the head coach of Penn State's football team and as one of the most beloved coaches in NCAA history, a child abuse sex scandal involving Paterno's long-time former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, Paterno was fired by the Board of Trustees.
