Doctor believes he has developed a breast cancer vaccine and is working to go to trial:
"A researcher at the Cleveland Clinic said he may have discovered a shot that can prevent breast cancer.
Most advances in breast cancer cures come with new treatments, like variations in surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, but Cleveland Clinic Immunologist Dr. Vincent Tuohy said he has developed a way to immunize mice.
Tuohy is taking a radical approach; instead of treating cancer, he wants to prevent it, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported on Tuesday.
"Almost all cancer drugs and therapies were designed to eliminate the cancer after it appears," Tuohy said. "You don't wait until you have polio and measles to vaccinate; you do it prophylactically to prevent it."
Tuohy said the childhood vaccine program is the most successful effort in history when it comes to eliminating the pain, death, and cost of illness.
He hopes to do the same for breast cancer."
