Steve Jobs' legacy extending beyond computers

jobs-and-medvedev.jpg

The Silicon Valley icon may have been aware of his legacy in the world of personal computing, but he may not have been aware of the potentially far-reaching impact of the choices he made concerning his health in the years preceding his death from a treatable form of cancer.

In an informalpoll given by the daily medical news site medpagetoday.com, almost one-half of over 1,900 health professionals polled said that they would "use Jobs' death as an example to discourage patients from seeking alternative treatments."

Jobs suffered from a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor for eight years, and much of that time he spent in chasing down ultimately unhelpful holistic or alternative treatments. in the process he delayed receiving conventional therapy—therapy that could have cured him.

It was a decision he came to regret, according to his official biographer, Walter Isaacson.
